Vicky has some startling news. Roy has some worrying news. Brian has some unexpected news.
Radio Times: Brenda is in for a shock and Adam chooses sides.
Characters: Adam, Brenda, Brian, Ian, Jolene, Kenton, Roy, Vicky- It seems that everyone is trying to get in touch with Adam. First Brian rings him, wanting a decision on the arable, then Ian, wanting to know what is going on.
- Lynda’s theatrical endeavours meet with disaster. To the amusement and/or scorn of various Ambridge residents, the company have fallen out, and the community drama will not be taking place. The actors gather at The Bull to drown their sorrows, but are so badly behaved that Jolene throws them out. Roy gets a call from Kate. A nasty incident in a taxi has distressed Phoebe, who wants to come home as soon as possible. Roy rushes off to find Hayley.
- Brenda calls on Vicky to apologise for her behaviour over Vicky’s new dress. Vicky seems almost lost in thought, and Brenda realises she has something on her mind. Brenda is shocked when she hears what is wrong; Vicky is pregnant.
- Vicky finds it hard to think straight. She had always wanted a baby, though thinks she is now too old to cope with one, but she has no idea how Mike will feel about it. Brenda is quietly supportive, but urges Vicky not to make any rash decisions.
- At last Adam turns up, and Brian immediately lectures him over a broken fence. Calmly Adam says he and Geoff have been mending it, which is why Adam has not been able to give Brian an answer sooner. But Brian’s fault-finding and hectoring have made Adam’s job easier; he has decided to quit his job as arable manager.
- When Ian learns what Adam has done, he is angry. Why could Adam not discuss something that affects them both with him?
