Will Emma try to sort things out with Helen? Will David sort things out with Josh?
Radio Times: Emma offloads her worries to Peggy, and the quest for Flower and Produce Show success begins.
Characters: David, Emma, Jennifer, Jill, Josh, Peggy- At The Lodge, Emma admits to Peggy that she feels guilty about helping Rob with Henry in the summer. She feels that somehow that she’s let Helen down. In fact, she’s been avoiding her. Peggy can’t believe what she’s hearing; Emma has done no wrong. Helen would surely prefer for her to have cared for Henry than Ursula. She suggests that Emma confides in Helen and explains how she feels. After all, Helen needs all of her friends around her.
- At Brookfield, David almost gleefully tells Jill that Josh’s mushroom idea is a total non-starter. His internet searches have shown that his son will need a huge amount of capital and almost as much technical expertise, which David feels he hasn’t got. He’s totally convinced that mushrooms are not the crop that Josh should be considering.
- At the shop, the truth will out. Jennifer casually enquires what Jill is entering for the Flower and Produce Show. Jill’s slightly cagey, blackcurrant jam, spiced plum chutney and lemon drizzle cake, assisted by “secret” ingredients are the order of the day. Jill lets out that Carol has entries too. Jill has offered to take her chutney, wine, and jam down, but Carol should be back for the judging. Well, it’s a good plan, but will Jill be able to carry it out I wonder?
- Jenny calls for Peggy at the hairdresser and while she waits, she takes the opportunity to mention Adam and Ian’s current situation. Peggy is upset but hopes that their plan to spend some time apart may help in the long run. The second piece of news about Justin’s job offer to Rob is almost as bad. Peggy can’t see how Lilian will take to the idea of sharing an employer with her niece’s abuser. But, as Lilian’s relationship with Justin is purely professional, they will both have to work around it. Er … yes!
- David manages to grab a few moments to speak to Josh, who expects (and gets) a rant. David insists that mushrooms could be very bad news; Josh says that he’s considering high-end exotics rather than ordinary whites. They descend into another row and Josh leaves to do some paid polytunnel work at Bridge Farm. Jill returns in time to see Josh leave. David bemoans his relationship with his children. What’s gone wrong? Jill, of course, has seen it all before. David is beginning to sound just like his own father.
