Characters: David, Hayley, Pat, Peggy, Roy
- Peggy’s worried about Pat, that she’s trying to go too far too fast. Peggy, though is driving Pat mad with her fussing. While Pat might wish Peggy would spend some time away from Bridge Farm, when she’s worrying about how Tommy is coping and hoping that Hayley is alright (she’s not been seen by anyone since Friday), Peggy’s on hand to offer some comforting words.
- Roy’s due to meet Mike at Keepers Cottage. Mike hopes that Uncle Tom will sell him his greenhouse, which he can then give to Marjorie. Roy’s there, but Mike’s too busy, but it turns out that it would be fine but Tom wants £50 – the same figure Marjorie paid to have her tree felled, so Mike makes nothing on the job!
- While checking on the greenhouse Roy sees Hayley (and later Pat is glad to know she’s been seen). In the evening they meet again and go for a walk as Hayley’s got something on her mind. She tells Roy about her and John’s meal last Tuesday: the nice restaurant, the pleasant atmosphere, them being friends again. She stutters a bit as she recounts his nervousness as he produced the box with the ring inside, his proposal and her subsequent refusal. She’s been in a terrible state since finding out about his death blaming herself for it, something Roy tells her not to do. She’s blaming herself for being the cause of John’s mood and his tardiness on Wednesday morning and, what is worse for her, she’s fearing telling all of this to Pat and Tony.
