Characters: Alistair, Brian, David, Hayley, Kate, Marjorie, Phil
- Hayley’s visiting John’s grave during a quiet moment, before going to see Kate. She bumps into Marjorie who’s heading into the church to prepare it for the next day’s service. Later, Hayley’s walking past the church and is almost knocked over by a running man and a shaken Marjorie tells her that he had just been in the church, removing various items from the altar.
- Phil makes a mistake with the harvesting, mixing up two types of wheat, despite David having mentioned it a few days ago. David’s not too worried, but Phil is very apologetic.
- Kate’s planning on skipping the country, fed up with living within a system (a patriarchal conspiracy, no less) that can constrain her so unfairly. Hayley’s trying to talk her out of it, with no success. Kate’s tension is obvious to the infant who’s screaming whenever her mother holds her.
- Alistair and David are meeting for a pint. David mentions that, while they were tempted, he, Neil and Sean are not going to Darrington, but are going to play themselves as martyrs to the rest of the team to try and get some improvements in the remainder of the season. Alistair though, isn’t interested, and tells a distinctly surprised David about his and Shula’s split. David’s even more shocked to discover it’s because of another man.
- Brian hears the baby’s cries and visits the cottage, where his greater experience (and less tenseness) calms the child. He notices the various packed cases and is a little surprised and disappointed. Kate is desperate to flee her persecutors and Brian promises that they’ll be appointing the best representative to defend her rights – using the system from within, rather than taunting it from without. He assures her that “no-one is going to take your rights away.”
