Characters: Alistair, Betty, Clarrie, Eddie, Joe, Richard, Shula, Usha
- Eddie’s anxious, both because Clarrie’s growing increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of the tickets and because Joe, despite having got the bidding up to £600 for the pair, still hasn’t revealed the problem with the tickets to the bidders. Joe’s not worried though, he’s convinced that the winner will be embarrassed into silence and that Eddie (yes, Eddie) will be able to think up something to tell Clarrie. After all, he’s done the hard work of selling them, why shouldn’t Eddie do something too?
- Betty’s getting the shop back to normal, no music, the jewellry on special offer and the sales rep has instructions not to take orders from Kate, so no more tofu burgers, either.
- Richard arrives – cash in hand – at Grange Farm to collect the sealed envelope and … Joe is saved by Richard’s bleeper as he’s called away, but later he’s fuming, although Usha, who wouldn’t necessarily have wanted to go, can’t help but laugh as he threatens dire deeds on the Grundy clan.
- A quiet evening in Glebe cottage, but as Alistair suggestions a weekend away, Shula stalls him and he decides that he can’t take the vascillations and the wavering and leaves, promising to phone her at some point. She’s a little disappointed but doesn’t try too hard to stop him.
