Characters: David, Jill, Peggy, Phil, Shula, Tony
- Ahead of their birthday, Jill and Phil are looking to buy the twins a pair of rings. Shula likes the idea and claims her absent-minded distraction is down to her thinking of Kenton so far away on their birthday. Jill’s planning a quiet dinner party for select family and friends and is worried about whether both Richard and Usha will attend.
- Peggy’s not happy with Roy’s attitude – she thought better of him – and is concerned at Kate’s possible reactions. She mentions, without thinking, to Tony that losing one grandchild this year will have been bad enough. Tony brushes it aside, but does remark that John did enjoy this time of year, harvesting and such.
- Phil’s feeling a little down about his mistake, but David’s adamant that he’s not pressuring him. Shula’s not convinced but is more worried when her brother tells her that he was talking to Alistair. He’ll mind his own business if necessary, but asks her whether her story of another man is just an excuse. She is relieved to be able to tell someone about and swears him to secrecy and then divulges the guilty truth and to say he’s gobsmacked is an understatement.
- Alistair has told Jill that a family crisis means he won’t be at Shula’s party – Jill still doesn’t know they’ve split up.
- Peggy’s in the church, doing the chores for a still shaken Marjorie. Shula’s pleased to see her in the church, as she’s still not returned to their fold, but is glad when she leaves so she is able to spend some time in quiet prayer and contemplation at her situation. She admits that she’s done wrong and cannot go back and regrets that she’s hurting so many people.
