Characters: Clarrie, Eddie, Phil, Ruth, Simon, Susan, Usha
- Ruth hears that a friend’s beef farm has gone under due to the BSE crisis and much political comment blames the government’s inaction for the fiasco. Later, when she finds that the Bull no longer sells Steak and Kidney pie she does off the deep end, particularly at Usha.
- Eddie has a plan for expanding the herd, by leasing the entire quota during the inaction (in addition to those that are being signed over to Brookfield anyway) they should raise enough to bring the herd back up to its old strength, given that the new parlour will not be operational until Easter at the earliest.
- Richard and Usha are very pleased with Ivy Horobin.
- Simon stills seems to treat the business units with more urgency than the insurance claim, and Simon even blames Eddie’s regular visits to the estate office as a reason for the tardiness of the claim!
