David and Ruth are having their first relaxing evening since well before harvest and Ruth is contemplating catching up with Usha. Alistair then pops in and Ruth then discovers about his and Shula’s split, David manages to get her away on some errand when he reveals he knows that Shula’s story is true and, further, he knows the other man’s identity.
As Alistair and Ruth discuss things and he tells of his desire for reconcilisation, David goes off to Shula’s (who’s been discussing church security with Janet and was close to confessing) and he tells her that he’s not going to be able to hold the secret for long.
Eventually, much as she would have loved to, Shula cannot quite tell Janet, but admits that standing up to everyone would be a positive step.
Having had lots of visitors, Richard finally manages to get to see his new love – and they’re both pleased. She reveals she’s told David and they agree that they will tell their ex-partners …. tomorrow. As he leaves some birthday flowers have appeared on her doorstep. She claims they’re from Pip, but after Richard’s left she reads the card aloud, “I love you – Alistair” …..
