Characters: Clive, Hayley, John, Lynda, Sean, Tommy
- Lynda and Clive are blackberrying as he reveals that he’s been “helping the police with their enquiries”, as he bemoans his past, Lynda’s supportive but admits to her own problems – a bad review of the play in the Echo.
- Tommy’s visiting Hayley to help with the jam making, John’s not overly keen as he’s trying to make amends for his wrong-doing (not that she knows) and Tommy’s moaning about Pat and Tony and his unselection for the cricket team.
- Clive moans to Sean about the police, then Sean and Lynda both “unite in the face of philistines” as they realise the Echo’s review was the work of Martin Taylor and, although it won’t have been revenge, Sean is glad that he asked Marjorie to score for the final.
- Fed up with John and Tommy bickering, she sends them to the Cat where Tommy confronts Sean, who’s pleased he was brave enough to come directly, but stands by his selection of David as he’s sure they’ve selected their strongest eleven. Tommy’s not happy with being twelfth man, but Sean’s sure he’ll come around – if not, he’ll just ask Eddie! He and John start talking tactics as they discuss the pitch and what choice to make if they win the toss …..
