Characters: Alistair, Caroline, Clarrie, Eddie, Kathy, Sid, William
- Sid’s making out as though the Bull’s televisionlessness is a good thing – a World Cup free zone – although as soon as the kickoff to England’s first match he, along with most of the other male regulars, has sloped off to find a screen. While he doesn’t see the Cat’s widescreen TV as competition, he does agree with Eddie that Sean’s captaincy, seeing the fourth defeat in five for the cricket team, might be lacking.
- In the evening The Bull has organised a women-only quiz night.
- William’s finally got his hands on the tickets and is worried that his brother has saved more of his pocket money than he and Eddie even catches him trying to count how much Edward has in his piggy bank. Eddie seems to be tempted despite being outwardly shocked! William seems a chip off the hold block because he says he needs the extra capital to buy genuine French souvenirs to sell at school.
- Clarrie’s planning the trip to Meyruelle and has decided that travelling by coach will be cheapest, but it’s a very long journey and shocks Eddie by deciding to extend the trip – from Wednesday to Tuesday – to make the time travelling worthwhile. Although she and the boys are staying with friends, he’s worried about the cost.
- Alistair’s worming Moonlight and reveals to Caroline that he and Shula are in the Doldrums. He appreciates that he was possibly at fault on Thursday and she recomends a softly, softly approach.
