  • Lizzie’s not enjoying her temporary stint overseeing Nelson’s – fully booked and fractious – as Shane and two waitresses call in sick, the cover (from a friendly local restaurant) may take time to arrive and Nigel doesn’t appreciate her absence from the office. Usha books lunch for her and a client and is assured things will be fine. She’s not entirely surprised that news of Terry Fielding has spread beyond just Eddie and his counsel, no progress, but the police know about it.
  • Sharon wakes an oversleeping John, who’s not in best frame of mind. She invites him round for Christmas, he refuses and she’s sorry – not just for her, but for Kylie, who misses him too. Later, he creeps around the shop to catch her on her own. He’s not changed his mind, he’s still not visiting her over Christmas, but he has a gift for Kylie. Sharon’s moved, but is starting to see the futility of the chase.
  • Kenton and Ruth are talking about a rally protesting at the treatment of farmers, with talk of many families facing distinctly uncertain futures in the light of food and subsidy issues. Kenton jokingly prophesises a big bash in case this is Brookfield’s last Christmas.
  • Kenton plays saviour as he arrives to rescue Lizzie from the grips of a disorganised lunch. Usha is forced to take her client for fast food. While Lizzie’s not sure Kenton is any better prepared to step into the absent Nelson’s shoes, she appreciates her brother’s help.
