  • Richard’s hearing is starting to get to him. Sleeplessness, forgetfulness, although he has spotted his latest penchance for over-compensation. Via Nelson’s wish for his good luck, he finds out that Janet has been called, too, this shouldn’t surprise him, as Usha tells him, but he is thrown deeper into gloom.
  • Nelson had been to see Richard, and mentioned his regular indigestion, which they agree is due to Julia’s habit of large meals. He tries to mention this to her, but she’s brushes it off in her own inimitable way! After all, she has the constitution of a “buffalo”!
  • Shula is having a tough time with Simon (who remains unheard), although pleased with the way the various experiments on the estate are going and having gained planning permission, he remains annoyed at Shula’s handling of the Grundys and wants her to perform an unnanounced visit to check that they are sticking to their tenancy. She is not looking forward to it.
  • David’s struggling to find a team for the weekend – a match which clashes with what would have been Mark and Shula’s eleventh anniversary.
