Characters: Clarrie, Eddie, Hayley, Joe, Neil, Sharon, Tommy
- Neil’s still chasing Joe and Eddie for the £800, and wants to be reasonable. Eventually, along Joe’s trying to take it personally, Eddie offers to repay the debt at £50 per month. Neil will offer this to his boss.
- Hayley’s spending time at John’s grave and is shocked to find a card and flowers there from Sharon. While she’s there Sharon arrives and the sparks fly. Hayley explicitly blames her for their split, for their arguments, for her refusal of hisproposal and for her never being able to tell John how much she truly loved him. Sharon tries to tell how much she loved him too, but Hayley ends the confrontation by telling Sharon that she won, if she couldn’t have him, she’s made sure that no-one could. Later she’s taking her fury out on the stakes for the pig pens and tells Tommy that it’s luck that there’s not two corpses in the graveyard ….
- Later in the day, Sharon’s at Bridge Farm again to try to make her peace with Pat and Tony. They’re not there and Tony, while outwardly trying to understand her, gets upset himself. She leaves as Hayley returns and Tommy, who’s mind is not on the job, then goes and, it a moment of almost light relief after the trauma of the rest of the episode, hits himself on the foot with the sledge hammer and seems to have broken it ….
