Characters: Bert, Clarrie, Eddie, Richard, Ruth, Sid, Usha
- Eddie has been detained in Borchester nick overnight, and Usha has been summoned to his assistance. Eddie realises that he hasn’t helped himself with this episode, but Usha is cautiously optimistic. Eddie has remembered that when he dropped Clive at Hollerton Junction on the night of the attack that he had to lean across Clive to open the van door. Usha realises the importance of this, planning to commission her own forensic tests, and Eddie begins to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
- Clarrie is worried sick about what will happen to Eddie. When Sid reminds her that she is due behind the bar that evening she decides that keeping busy will help her keep going, while when Sid hears the news about the fight in The Cat & Fiddle last night he’s not slow in making sarcastic comments about The Cat’s “new image”.
- Bert is having to do a solo act in delivering a difficult calf until Ruth arrives to help. Bert is concerned to get to the Bull in time for the quiz match – he ‘has a feeling’ that he might do well again, but he is feeling a bit tired. When Ruth discovers that his tiredness is due to his morning stints feeding the birds at Grey Gables, she is decidedly peeved that Phil has omitted to tell her or David about the arrangement. Ruth has it out with him before arriving late for the quiz match.
- Richard is dredging for quiz team members as John has pulled out. Eddie’s not in the mood, but Susan obliges. As it happens, Bert might as well be another solo act as he answers almost all the questions on virtually any topic! The Bull wins again.
