  • Adam is surprised to have found Brian in a very sunny mood. Apparently they have some very high quality applicants for the herd manager post. At a salary of upwards of £60k that’s not really surprising. Ruth asks David to look at the grass in one of the fields they had improved but it hasn’t done well. They will have to seed again or the only alternative is to plough it up and re start.
  • It is confirmed that Vicky’s baby definitely has Down’s Syndrome. The consultant takes them through the possible health problems and issues. Mike can only think that even if the child has none of the health problems, it is bound to have learning difficulties. The consultant encourages them to look positively but Mike returns to his age as an issue. Vicky on the other hand, is determined she wants the baby come what may.
  • Plans are afoot for the Brookfield picnic. It is going to be in the orchard, or a barn if wet – at least they still have some barns.
  • Vicky wants to tell the family as quickly as possible again. Mike is absolutely adamant they mustn’t be told until they have decided on a termination. Mike heard what she said but doesn’t think she hasn’t thought it through. It was going to be hard enough when the baby didn’t have Down’s Syndrome but it will be even harder now. Mike doesn’t want their life to change but Vicky says she couldn’t bear it.
