Tom tries in vain to make amends. Alistair has some interesting news to impart. Mike and Vicky have a scare.

• Brenda’s relentless moan about Lilian continues, as does Tom’s effort to restore harmony to their relationship. He has managed to get tickets for a concert tonight, and urges Brenda to get ready, but Brenda has other plans; she has promised to help Vicky with Bethany as Mike is working late. A deflated Tom agrees to see Brenda when she can get there.
• At The Bull, Alistair and Ifty discuss the forthcoming cricket season. They will miss Chris on the team, but Ifty admits that his affinity with Ambridge just could tempt him to play for them this year. When he offers to help clean out the pavilion, he is forced to tell Alistair that he is having supper with Elizabeth on Thursday. Sounding like a teenage girl, Alistair tries to probe Ifty about the nature of the relationship, but Ifty will say no more.
• When Brenda reaches Willow Farm she finds Vicky in a terrible state. Bethany has been coughing for half an hour, so Mike has been summoned. When he arrives he instructs Brenda to run the shower to create steam. It helps Bethany’s breathing, and soon her temperature is back to normal. They will take her to the GP in the morning. Not interested in going to the concert, despite a call from Tom, Brenda stays and cooks a meal.
• Over a meal of Brookfield lamb, Alistair loses no time in telling an incredulous Shula about Elizabeth’s new beau. Self-righteous to the last, Shula absolutely refuses to believe it; Elizabeth is still grieving and in any case, Ifty is not her type.
• Brenda gets home to find Tom there. It seems that the concert was a disappointment. He offers to take Brenda wherever she wants next week, but Brenda is tired and heads for bed.
