  • Still no news from Johnno but Helen leaves him a message – another message – suggesting lunch. Meanwhile Tom has come to give Helen a run-through of his presentation to Bellinghams tomorrow; he reckons that she will provide him with good feedback. It will be tough: there will be a dozen suppliers presenting, each bringing two samples for tasting.
  • As she relates to Emma, Ruth was also unimpressed by the article about Brian. Jennifer had bought up all the spare copies from the shop – “for the family” – so Jim has ordered some more.
  • Finally Johnno answers his phone. He is on another job, further away – but not much further. He can’t make lunch. He’s sorry but he doesn’t think they should see each other again: there’s a previous girlfriend with whom he is hoping to get back together. Ah well, have a nice life says Helen, but when the call is ended: damn!
  • As she delivers sustenance to David, busy silaging, she also delivers the news that Pip has signed up for the single wicket competition – like a shot, once she discovered that Josh had entered. Ruth expresses her discomfort about their treatment of Pip. Isn’t a bit harsh? She agrees that Pip needs to set her sights lower but she is only asking them for a loan, and they have given Josh one.
  • Emma has responded to Helen’s call to go for a drink at The Bull. What’s up? Helen explains that Johnno has dumped her. Everything was going well until the restaurant date when she opened up to him and explained how Henry was conceived. Emma thinks it’s his loss. There are plenty more where he came from.
