Radio Times: Kenton is flying high and Jazzer looks the part.

  • The games are afoot, regularly punctuated by Jazzer’s pipes. David is helping to set up a stall and takes the opportunity to congratulate his brother on his engagement, news of which has travelled rapidly. Luckily, Jill is thrilled too. Kenton hopes that everyone will be.
  • Kathy is setting up too with help from Jamie, quietly: he is suffering from celebrating his 18th birthday with rather too much newly permitted alcohol.
  • The fete is opened by Dougie, claimed by Jazzer to be a clan chief, who unexpectedly takes part in all the games himself. Kathy feels she recognises Dougie and eventually the penny drops: he runs a fish and chip shop in Borchester. For Lynda that’s proof enough that he is not a genuine clan chief and she confronts a bewildered Jazzer on the matter.
  • Jim is happy that he succeeded in dunking the vicar. Lynda narrowly misses making a public announcement about Jazzer’s dishonesty before Jim persuades her that clan chiefdom and selling fish and chips are not mutually exclusive. So she apologises to Jazzer instead; moreover she intends to invite Dougie to address the haggis at her next Burns Night supper.
  • Kenton checks with Fallon that she is ok about him and her mum. He makes her mum happy, so Fallon is thrilled – and she couldn’t ask for a better step-dad; welcome to the family.
