Susan warms to clever Holly. Pat doesn’t warm to duplicitous Rob.

Radio Times: Susan strikes it lucky, while Helen fights her corner.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Oh no! What’s Holly done now? She’s had a lovely time with the bin bag from upstairs. Susan threatens a kennel in the garden but her mood is about to change because amongst the rubbish lies a lottery ticket – an unchecked lottery ticket.
  • At Bridge Farm, past events are going over and over in Pat’s mind; Helen lied so that she could sneak off to be with Rob. Tony sounds a note of realism: she was hardly going to reveal an affair with a married man she knew her parents didn’t like.
  • Ed is having a heart to heart with Neil about George; his attitude to Holly is verging on paranoia, fuelled no doubt by Will. Dogs are like kids; they need some security so it’s not a good idea, Ed argues, to take her to Will’s every time George goes there.
  • The lottery ticket is a winner: £4500 and still valid. Neil insists this has to be Susan’s money to spend on herself. Maybe they can go on that holiday she dreamed of. It’s all down to clever little Holly.
  • In the poly-tunnel, Tony is pleased to have help from Helen and Henry. It is going well until Pat comes along. Helen reveals that she plans to take Henry to the funeral tomorrow and that, to Pat’s undisguised relief, Rob will not be going. Helen tries to improve their view of him, assuring them that his marriage was in deep trouble long before she came on the scene. After all the sacrifices he made in vain for Jess, he now has a chance to be happy with her. Why be so hard on him?
  • The debrief later reveals that Pat is still not warming to Rob. If he can lie to his wife and then dump her, what’s to stop him doing the same to Helen?
