Alice encounters last minute problems. Tom has a last minute decision to make.

Radio Times: There is last minute trouble shooting for Alice, and Jennifer lends a hand.

Characters: Alice, Christopher, Jennifer, Peggy, Roy, Tom

• Roy has all the wedding details under control, but still insists on checking them with Tom, who sounds markedly uninterested. Roy tries some ‘hilarious’ wedding stories, but these, too, fail to raise a smile from the bridegroom.
• The stress is certainly building as Alice takes a call from her balloon suppliers to say they will not be able to fulfil her order. Hysterics ensue until Jennifer is summoned by her daughter, and agrees to go and buy balloons to make an arch.
• Despite having lots to do, Tom goes to see Peggy, who at first is full of trite remarks about tomorrow being the best day of Tom’s life. But she soon senses that something is seriously wrong; is it just stress? No, says Tom, it’s not stress; it’s me, my business, the farm, my whole future. On the night John died everything changed. Tom had to become John. If that had not happened he could be anywhere, do anything, but instead his whole life was mapped out for him.
• Jennifer, Alice and Chris blow up the balloons, but Alice thinks they will need a framework as they are not helium filled. Jennifer remembers something she saw in a bridal magazine; paper flowers and balloons. She will enlist Lilian’s support and they will make paper flowers. Alice is full of gratitude, but when a roll of thunder is heard, hysterics are once again the order of the day.
• Peggy feels that she is to blame for Tom’s situation. She really thought she was doing things for the best when she made her will. But if Tom has doubts about getting married, he must act now. Tomorrow will be too late. Kirsty will be heartbroken but it would be worse for her if he did go ahead with a marriage knowing it to be wrong. Tom says he is a fraud and has been a fraud all along. Well, says Peggy, if you have doubts you must call it off tonight.
