  • Why is Hayley not at work? Vicky is surprised to hear that she is job hunting; she thought Hayley loved her job. Have Elizabeth and Roy fallen out? Hayley tries in vain to talk Vicky into the harvest supper but she is demob happy and doesn’t see any point in going. With the best of intentions, Vicky mentions the rumours about Roy fiddling the books. That would be as unlikely as what he did do. Vicky can’t believe it; she thinks it must be more than a fling, though Roy is still claiming it was a one off and all over. Since Hayley is not getting straight answers from Roy, Vicky recommends that she asks Elizabeth; Hayley needs the truth in order to move on.
  • Charlie being away, Rob is free to play – at least, he is free to go home for lunch to see how Nurse Helen and her sick son are doing. Henry’s illness has set Helen thinking; everything has changed since Tom and Kirsty went and despite having invested so much in her career, her heart isn’t in it any more. She feels she is missing much of Henry’s early years and as the shop is in good hands, she has decided not to go back to work. Rob is supportive.
  • At Brookfield there’s another revelation, this time for Jill. David reveals that he is going with Ruth to Prudhoe – and why. They are just exploring a possibility, a backup plan in case Route B comes to fruition; they wouldn’t have considered it at all but for Heather. David is clearly hoping that the prospective farms are unsuitable and urges Jill not to brood over it. Easier said than done. Jill wonders whether they had thoughts that she would move with them.
