Hayley gets the truth from Elizabeth and leaves Roy and Ambridge. Jill can’t leave Ambridge.

Radio Times: The harvest supper is held, and Jill has a confession to make.

• Hayley hasn’t come to have a row with Elizabeth; she just wants the truth. How long has the affair been going on? It started at Greenbury Fields and they are equally guilty for it; there was nothing before. And after? There was Loxfest, which was supposed to be a goodbye; they knew it had to end. Well Elizabeth did – but did Roy?
• My version is best; no, mine is. Thus went the squabble between Joe and Bert about which version of John Barleycorn to sing, finally resolved by Carol – aka Mrs Tregorran. Jill thought she had rounded up all her family for the harvest supper but Elizabeth calls in with a sudden headache; no prizes for working out what brought that on.
• Roy comes home to find Hayley packing. She has to get away. She can’t go to the harvest supper now that she has spoken to Elizabeth. It’s not the sex – she could have got over that – but Roy hadn’t told her he was in love with Elizabeth. She is taking Abbie to her mum’s; she needs time to think – what to do now that their marriage is over.
• Carol’s solution has got the singing going but when they reach ‘Bringing in the sheaves’ Jill declares that it was Doris’ favourite hymn; Phil loved it too. She feels the need of some air, so Carol takes her outside. The song brought back a clear memory of Doris in the Brookfield kitchen. Giving up Brookfield was very hard for her. Of course it’s not just about Doris: yesterday she had said yes to David about moving away but now she feels she can’t. Like Doris she is too old to start again.
