News about the road development could destroy The Archers; Fallon, there’s no smoke without fire.

Radio Times: There is fun to be had at The Bull, and there is big news for Brookfield.

Characters: Brian, David, Fallon, Harrison, Jill, Jolene, Kenton, Ruth

• Halloween celebrations are in full swing at The Bull. Harrison and Justine turn up for a drink, Fallon has an attack of the miseries as a result, Jolene sends her to the Ploughman’s to get some peace. At Brookfield, Ruth opines that Heather has no wish to be a burden but she can see her mother having accidents stretching on for ever. Jill and David try to calm her down, by suggesting a bite to eat and a glass of wine!
• Jolene is reading Harrison’s palm. She finds him to be “emotionally expressive” and believes that he should be more so, like when he sang Annie’s Song. Brian tells Kenton of Jenny’s séance and his own contribution. He comments about Justine’s attentions towards Harrison; Fallon is not greatly amused. Later, she just can’t avoid speaking to Harrison who suggests that they meet up one evening soon, so that he can catch up with her life. Come on Fallon!
• Elsewhere, Jolene and Kenton are treating Brian to a Tarot reading. Kenton foresees a change in Brian’s life. No sooner than the words are out of his mouth than Brian has a call from Annabelle. Of course, he just must go over and see her… now. Later, Kenton turns his hand to the Ouija board with Jolene and Fallon, eventually conjuring a spirit (well it is The Bull) who half spells the name J. O. H. N. T. R. E. G. O. Who can believe it’s not Kenton playing about?
• Jill returns to Brookfield and tells Ruth and David of her Bridge lesson with Carol. They are interrupted by Brian bearing news from Annabelle… the council has opted for Route B. They can’t believe it, it’s the end of the Archers at Brookfield. Jill is completely distraught.
