Adam has a plan – to rescue the Home Farm contracting by expanding, viz. to buy Brookfield.
Radio Times: Remembrance Day brings thoughtful reflection, and Adam has a startling idea.
Characters: Adam, Alan, Alice, Brian, Jennifer, Peggy, Shula- Really! What a way to behave. Brian and Adam are indignant on Debbie’s behalf: she has been dismissed by Borchester Land – by email. It’s bad decision made in a thoroughly bad way – par for the course with BL these days. At least Charlie saw Adam face to face, though now Adam wishes he had punched Charlie’s. But the loss of the BL contract leaves them with a problem and Adam has an idea.
- At St Stephens, as in many churches, the dead of two world wars and other conflicts are being remembered. Jenny isn’t there: she has taken to her sick bed. She is not idle, though, and takes Adam to task for not delivering some of his wedding photos as promised for the album she is preparing for Peggy’s birthday on Thursday. Right now they need to discuss Adam’s idea – to buy one or both of the Brookfield land parcels to keep their staff and machines busy. (Maybe Justin will buy the house – he’s looking for an Ambridge pad!)
- Shula and Alan discuss Jill’s impending departure from the village. She doesn’t seem daunted, though she doesn’t like to upset people. Today’s service has made Shula dwell on Dan and what may happen to him; he is off to France next week. Peggy has a bit of a fall in the churchyard but is supported by Alice and limps away stoically.
- Jenny is sceptical about how their purchase of Brookfield might be viewed in the village but is persuaded by the menfolk that it is too good an opportunity to miss. One parcel or two? Let’s not mess about; let’s go for the whole place!
