Tom apologises to Neil; in future they will be partners.
Radio Times: Susan cooks a chilli, and David goes on a history trip.
Characters: David, Neil, Pip, Susan, Tom- David and Pip are on their way to the NFU archives. Their delving into farming methods in times gone by reveals family history and Pip’s great-grandad being ahead of his time in his thinking and practices, which makes them proud.
- Susan criticises Neil for his sartorial choices for working with the pigs – his handwash-only Christmas jumper, no less! The reason for his smart dress is because he is fired up having decided to tackle Tom over his position. Susan is overcome by his ‘commanding’ appearance and manner, and rewards him with a promise of homemade chilli later!
- Tom gets in first with an apology for not having listened to Neil over moving the pigs. He values Neil’s expertise and knowledge, and hasn’t been thinking straight since Tony’s accident. Tom wants to proceed in partnership with Neil on a much more equal basis. With the wind taken out of Neil’s sails, there is little left to do but enjoy Tom’s proffered biscuit!
- In the shop, Susan extols Neil’s virtues to David, comparing her wedded bliss to the demise of Lilian’s relationship. David will not be drawn on her sensational speculations about Matt’s whereabouts.
