Radio Times: Ed feels happy in his work, while Bert has a difficult day.

• On the day of Freda’s funeral, Jill is at pains to offer what comfort she can to Bert. It seems that the whole village has turned out to say farewell to a much-loved figure; Joe’s choice of apparel causes considerable comment. Bert’s poem is widely praised, and Jolene’s tribute is well received. Bert is overwhelmed by so much kindness.
• David asks Kenton is he is coming back to Brookfield for the post-funeral food. Somewhat awkwardly Kenton agrees, but as he leaves another row escalates, as David is quick to relate to Jill.
• Jill suggests that Bert might like to plant a rose at the bungalow in Freda’s memory, but this seems to worry Bert. He tells Carol that he wants to scatter Freda’s ashes on Haydon Berrow, where they did their courting. His children have offered him a home, but Bert wants to stay in Ambridge because that is where he belongs.
• Ed has been clearing culverts for Charlie, and, seemingly having forgotten his agreement about secrecy with Charlie, he tells Emma about the poor maintenance of ditches and culverts on the estate. Will Emma relay this piece of information to Susan?
