  • As Ambridge prepares to celebrate May Day, not everyone is happy. Lynda, in full-on organiser mode, is annoyed that Jennifer should have stolen her culinary idea for Emma’s wedding. The minibus transporting the Morris dancers has broken down and the May Queen’s crown has gone missing. Can things get any worse?
  • As David hands out SAVE leaflets and tries to extract money from the huge crowd that is gathering, he meets Rex Fairbrother, who wants to ask David’s advice, as past NFU chairman, about his poultry project. They make a date for Wednesday, and David scuttles off to inform Jill that Rex is none other than the son of the married man Elizabeth had an affair with.
  • Mia is to be crowned May Queen, but without a crown her day is ruined. Shula thinks it might be in the pond, but eventually it is discovered in the hedge, presumably washed their by the great Ambridge flood. But the Button girls are upset that they are not to be crowned? Can things get any worse?
  • Shula helps Kenton set up his barbecue, but he is soon overwhelmed with custom. As huge queues form, David is moved to assist, but gets a very churlish response from his hugely resentful brother. Rex chirpily comments that it is so good when families work together. Can things get any worse?
  • Shula receives a call from Richard Locke, who is meant to be coming to dinner tomorrow. He has had to cry off. Can things get any worse?
  • As the last of the crowds depart, Lynda sums up the day. They triumphed, she declares. It is so important to hold on to these village traditions.
