Ed is still getting work from the Estate and still agonising over asking his brother to be best man.

Radio Times: Robert is impressive, and Ed confides in Charlie.

  • Amazing binoculars! Apparently they can see sideways. Carol is not at all fooled by Jim’s explanation: she knows he is spying on Robert and, being a born mischief-maker, she gives the game away.
  • The object of Jim’s curiosity is Robert’s brand new telephoto lens purchased expressly for the bird watching competition. Lynda is impressed, until she learns the price. Robert didn’t consult her because she might have said no; she would indeed have said no. But when Robert explains that he could no longer stand Jim’s patronising comments about his ability to recognise birds, Lynda declares full support for her man.
  • Charlie has a job for Ed and is pleased that Ed can do it straight away. It’s just a temporary repair job on a fence. Ed is pleased to get the work; he admits to a puzzled Charlie that he wasn’t sure the Estate would use him again. He further confuses Charlie by half-revealing the dilemma he has over his forthcoming wedding, viz whether to ask his brother to be best man.
