Pip’s plans for the Fairbrothers business take shape; Kenton feels totally friendless as his plans continue to crumble.
Radio Times: The Fairbrothers seem in desperate need of hope, and there is despair in store for Kenton.
Characters: David, Fallon, Kenton, Lynda, Pip, Susan- Pip has slept through her alarm leaving David to do the morning milking. She is beside herself. David tells her not to worry; at least she had a good night out with her University friends. However nothing he says seems to help. She is inconsolable and feels that she has let him down badly.
- At The Bull, Fallon tells Kenton of her brainwave regarding the planned Wimbledon fortnight celebrations. Why couldn’t they sell upmarket hampers for consumption while watching the big screen TV or sitting out in the garden? Only half convinced, Kenton decides to call an emergency Fete Committee meeting to bring the fete back to Ambridge, rather than Lower Loxley.
- David shares with Pip how tired Ruth sounds on the telephone. Heather continues to find it difficult to adjust to life after her stroke. He’s persuaded Ruth to stay up north over the weekend rather than drive hundreds of miles just to spend a few hours at Brookfield.
- Lynda and Susan answer Kenton’s invitation to the garden at The Bull, though it seems that no one else on the committee has. While waiting for him to turn up they chat about the possible plans for Helen and Rob’s wedding with Fallon. Kenton arrives late and Lynda, much to his annoyance, insists on moving the meeting inside as it’s getting a little chilly.
- Pip tells David of the Fairbrothers’ plans to decamp to Newquay during the summer if they can’t find suitable land and buildings for their poultry venture. She tries to persuade her sceptical father to give them a temporary home in the buildings at Hollowtree, for a decent rent of course. After much badgering on her part and an ample sufficiency of grumbling on his, he agrees, but insists on a proper business tenancy. Pip is over the moon.
- Kenton accuses Lynda of being defeatist over the fete. However both Susan and she are quite certain that Lower Loxley is the only possible venue for the event. The facilities in Ambridge are just not up to it, and that’s that. Susan suggests that Elizabeth could take a collection to help refurbish the Village Hall. With that, both women take their leave. Kenton complains to Fallon that he sees nothing less than a full-blown takeover bid for the whole community event by Elizabeth and David.
