Plans for Phoebe’s birthday don’t go Kate’s way; plans for Kate’s future may well run into a few local difficulties; Brian is feeling antediluvian.
Radio Times: Roy has a party to plan, and Brian is feeling rattled.
Characters: Brian, David, Jennifer, Kate, Lilian, Roy- Brian shares his concerns about Adams mad cap ideas for lambing with Jenny. He fears that they may drive them into the bankruptcy court. Kate appears and puts in her two penny worth. She agrees with Adam, it’s just what the world needs for its long term wellbeing. Brian phones David, hoping to arrange to discuss Adam’s plans over a pint.
- Kate tracks Lilian down with the aim of continuing their discussion about life plans. Lilian suggests they both talk over a drink. Kate insists on a rain check but takes the opportunity to introduce her latest scheme. Has Lilian ever tried meditation?
- Roy calls at Home Farm for a word with Kate. He tells Jennifer that Mike was in the village yesterday. Roy feels he will take time to settle in his new home though Vicky has already done so. Roy starts to head indoors to tell Kate that Mike has plans for a family get together for Phoebe’s birthday. Brian arrives in a state of shock, having found Kate and Lilian sitting on the dining room floor… in total silence no less.
- Kate announces her big idea to Lilian: an alternative therapy centre, a retreat with yurts, yoga and massage. Lilian casts an eye over her written proposal and is impressed. She’ll help to write an official business plan to present to Brian if he’s to be a funding source. She excuses herself as Roy comes in with news of his plans for Phoebe’s party, perhaps a barbecue at Home Farm? Kate, as expected, is less than enthusiastic, but offers to get her mother onside before asking Brian.
- Brian tells David that he feels that Adam has totally lost the plot with his ideas for change at Home Farm. David suggests finding out what Debbie’s views are as she is bound to give an objective view. She has the best interests of the business at heart. Brian wonders if he’s over the hill, should he just pack it all in? Adam seems intent on upending the whole farm system, it feels like open revolution.
- Kate phones to tell Roy that Phoebe has opted for a barbecue at Roy’s place to which she’ll bring her boyfriend Alex. Jenny and Brian have offered a pizza party for close friends at Home Farm on Friday. Kate, with her usual aplomb, tells Roy he has to give his house a thorough clean before the event. Kate doesn’t want Phoebe being embarrassed by her father as girls can be very sensitive at her age. Oh yes, indeed they can Kate.
