Changes set in motion by Adam are attracting compliments for all the wrong reasons, in Brian’s opinion and he calls on Debbie to rein Adam in. Rex and Toby, with Pip’s support, are a little closer to bringing their embryonic business to fruition.
Radio Times: Lynda finds a kindred spirit, and Brian seeks support.
Characters: Brian, Debbie, Kate, Lynda, Pip, Rex- Lynda and Kate mutually admire the flourishing herbal mix on Brian’s land. Kate bemoans Brian and draws comfort from Lynda who knows only too well how a creative spirit is misunderstood by the world. Kate indicates her intention to remain in Ambridge and begin a new venture, but does not want the details shared widely at this stage.
- Pip helps Rex prepare for the goslings’ arrival. He envies Pip for having been born to farming; he is finding it hard to learn as he goes along and constantly feels on the back foot. Toby is nowhere to be seen, being the brains, rather than the brawn behind the scheme. According to Rex, Toby rarely gets his hands dirty, but Pip says this will have to change and Toby must pitch in – for Rex’s sake.
- Lynda has set Robert to photographing the herbal lay which is attracting bees and butterflies, when Brian arrives. He defends Adam’s planting decisions and stresses that the herbal mix is a serious piece of nourishing grazing land for the sheep and soil fertility. It is not a conservation project or tourist attraction. A flustered Brian is disarmed by Lynda’s compliments and agreement with him, albeit for different reasons.
- A water leak disrupts proceedings in Rex and Toby’s new premises, leaving Pip soaked to the skin. Whilst Rex proffers his t-shirt to help her dry off, Toby arrives in a pick-up truck, having gone out to purchase a gas heater. The brothers squabble over lack of joint decision-making, as the truck wasn’t costed in their plan. Pip leaves them to it, while Toby teases Rex that he may have deliberately left the connection loose on the drinkers in order that Pip received a soaking. Rex denies this, but does not deny his attraction to Pip.
- Brian complains to Debbie on the phone about having received praise from Lynda Snell on his farming methods. This does not sit comfortably with him as they normally hold diametrically opposed views and the shifting nature of Adam’s new methods are unsettling him. He implores Debbie to speak to Adam, as he is not sure Adam has fully thought through all implications of his new ideas.
