The dead dog is confirmed as the source of botulism and Jennifer realises it was probably Scruff.

Radio Times: The residents of Ambridge hold a harvest festival, and Charlie does not feel popular.

  • It is Harvest Festival at St Stephens even though there are a lot of people in Ambridge without much to be thankful for. Jill is upset that she couldn’t do more baking – she can’t find her way round the Lower Loxley kitchen. Jennifer has to insist to them that the incident at Berrow Farm was nothing to do with the way the cows are kept; it was just bad luck – whatever Lynda says.
  • Charlie tells Adam that botulism has been confirmed. The tests on the dog showed it up. Now there will be more tests. It seems most likely that the forage harvester scooped up the dog along with the grass. The vets can’t tell how many deaths there will be. They’ve just been through the first phase but there could be a second phase from the infected cows.
  • Jill admits she still isn’t settled at Lower Loxley. Jill says she loves being with the children but she isn’t a good fit for a stately home. Even her own room doesn’t feel comfortable. She feels that Julia doesn’t like her being there. Carole says there may be something in that but Jill thinks it’s just Halloween
  • Adam tells Brian that the dog may have come from one of Home Farm’s flooded fields. Jennifer begins to associate the carcass with Scruff. That wouldn’t make Lynda any fonder of Berrow Farm.
  • Ben and Josh have apparently told Jill that there is nothing to eat at Brookfield. They are fed up with takeaways. Carole insists that Jill must talk to David and Ruth but Jill feels that might be seen to be rushing in. She’ll have to bide her time.
  • Carole tries to persuade Charlie that the way to Lynda’s heart would be to audition for Calendar Girls. He could be the photographer. Jennifer is amazed he is planning to talk to Lynda. He wants to be straight with her. But Jennifer thinks finding out it was a dead dog would be the end of things. It would be better if Lynda never finds out.
