Rob’s mission to isolate Helen continues apace; David’s delay in telling Ruth could rebound on him.

Radio Times: Helen cannot believe her ears, and David has a painful experience.

• Rob prepares to head for Bridge Farm, along with Henry. He insists on covering Helen’s shift at the farm shop while Pat looks after Henry. Helen is left with firm orders to rest until they return, her health is important. Eddie turns up with some logs. Rob makes it clear that she’s not to entertain the idea of offering help.
• At Brookfield, David and Pip are washing up. He’s had a quick call from Ruth to say she’d arrived in New Zealand but the flight was long and tiring. They’ll probably talk more when she’s settled in. He refuses Pip’s offer of taking part in the Fairbrothers’ touch rugby event, but may go to spectate. He’s looking forward to putting his feet up before milking.
• Eddie drops by the farm shop to ask Rob for payment for the logs as Helen had no money. He gets £50 cash on account. He tells the tale of spotting a “starkers” Susan Carter in the village shop at night being photographed by Robert Snell. He wonders how Rob is getting on as a shop worker, surely a bit of a comedown? Rob feels it’s worth it, knowing Helen’s getting a “proper rest”.
• Pip’s phone call to Toby ends abruptly with a yell from her father. She rushes over to the cow shed. He was attending to a lame cow’s foot and it kicked him. He’s in great pain and she quickly decides that the only thing to do is to get him to hospital, pronto. David doesn’t disagree.
• Rob “finds” the cheque book in the bureau and berates Helen yet again. Has she forgotten about her scan on Thursday as well? Her hormones must be making her befuddled. He also makes a great play of telling her about Jennifer’s news at the ball. As well as his dalliance with Charlie, Adam has had a fling with a picker some time ago. He’s been deceiving Ian and Helen. Rob suggests that she should have nothing further to do with their wedding.
• At Brookfield, David is nursing a broken right arm. It will keep him off work for two months. Eddie walks in having finished the milking. He offers help but with work mounting, it could be tricky. As he leaves, Pip reckons that she can cover the work, but David disagrees. Hang the loss of profits; it just has to be a contract milker. As he will need Rickyard Cottage, Pip must move out. As for telling Ruth, he insists on leaving it for a week. Let her have time to herself.
