Lilian looks forward to her new role. Lynda looks forward to her next production. Ursula reveals her true purpose.

Radio Times: Has someone got their eye on Kirsty? Lynda’s feeling creative once again.

Characters: Helen, Jennifer, Justin, Kirsty, Lilian, Lynda, Ursula

• Lilian shows Justin around a rather dusty and dingy Dower House. Justin oozes charm; he will pay for Lilian’s furniture to go into store; he would like to redecorate and pay the bill, but would like Lilian’s advice; he would like to take her to the Food and Drinks Award since she knows so many of those involved; he would like to go with her to the Borsetshire Business Woman of the Year award. Lilian is utterly charmed, simpering and giggling.
• Lynda tells Kirsty about her plan for the re-opening of the village hall. She plans to put on an E. M. Forster pageant. Unwilling at first to show any interest, Kirsty is intrigued when she hears the details.
• Lilian regales her sister with stories of Justin’s generosity. Jennifer is happy to see Lilian so enthused and cheerful again. As lunch cooks they drink a toast to Lilian’s new employer, tenant and source of money. Lilian mentions the fact that Adam looks miserable. Jennifer tells her that he and Ian had a tiff on Valentine’s Day, because Adam received a large and anonymous card.
• Jennifer drags Lilian along to the hall, where they hear more about the pageant. This gives Jennifer an opportunity to parade her literary knowledge – cue Lynda parading hers.
• Kirsty manages to see Helen at last, and is quite won over by Ursula, who is charm itself. Helen is happy and relaxed as they chat about Valentine cards and Roy – quite the old Helen that Kirsty though she’d gone. Ursula takes Henry to Sarah’s, leaving the friends to chat.
• Having dropped Henry off, Ursula rings Rob. She agrees that Kirsty is not at all the sort of friend Helen needs. The sooner Rob puts a stop to the friendship, the better.
