Ursula has agreed to stay on to help Rob with his “good work”; it’s all hands to the pumps at Brookfield with the arrival of the new herd; Kirsty remains suspicious.
Radio Times: Is Brookfield all set for change?
Characters: Carol, Helen, Jill, Jolene, Kenton, Kirsty, Ursula- At The Bull, Jolene announces that she’s giving up coffee for Lent. Kenton decides that he’s not going to bother. The news of Wayne’s plan to offer bread rolls for Mothering Sunday leaves him totally underwhelmed. Jill calls in before going on a walk with Carol. Further discussion of Wayne’s plans is shelved but she comments approvingly about the smell of newly baked bread. Does Wayne have a point perhaps?
- Kirsty telephones Helen. Ursula answers; Helen’s taking a snooze. They had a terrible night with Henry. He has wet the bed. Ursula reckons it’s related to going back to school; Kirsty suggests it may be due to the imminent arrival of his baby brother. Ursula heartily disagrees but ends by brightly promising to let Helen know that she’s called. Oh yes?
- Carol and Jill extend their walk to Bert’s cottage to take a look at his garden, after all the hard work he’s put in. They meet Kirsty on her way to the village. She explains that she was going to visit Helen, but was put off by Ursula. Carol was surprised that she was still here, but having met her in the village shop, thought that she was delightful and had a wicked sense of humour. Jill too has received good reports from Jim. So that’s all right then!
- Jolene reckons that Wayne’s sourdough rolls are being well received by their customers. Kenton is rather huffy. She explains that he must view Wayne as a good chef, rather than her ex-husband. There’s no room for jealousy. Her plan is that Wayne should prepare some upmarket sandwiches for Mothering Sunday, based around good local produce, mirroring the offerings in the restaurant. Kenton agrees, after all it’s only a temporary arrangement. Hmm.
- Helen has slept longer than intended. She spots Henry playing games on her phone. Ursula confirms that there was only one call (?). It was Tom offering an invitation to his birthday “do”. Helen explains that Tom’s birthday coincided with John’s death. She asks Ursula for a lift into Borchester to shop for a gift. Ursula just can’t see how she can, until Helen suggests asking Kirsty. Suddenly Ursula has an idea. As she’s taking Helen for her scan on Wednesday (Rob is busy working in the shop), why don’t they both go shopping afterwards? Yes, there’s a plan!
- Carol and Jill are delighted with Bert’s garden. It already has snowdrops and primroses in bloom. Bert is very upbeat about the idea of a fresh start. Talking of which, conversation turns to the mammoth task on hand at Brookfield with over 200 cows arriving over the next few days. Jill prays for good weather and hopes that David and Ruth are doing the right thing. Is that the beginning of a storm cloud over yonder?
