Rob grabs centre stage at the Single Wicket as commentator but is put in his place by Johnny.
Radio Times: Rob makes himself useful, and Johnny stands by Tom.
Characters: Johnny, Josh, Kenton, Pip, Rex, Rob, Tom- Pip was expecting Adam to help with the herd, but Tom appears in his place. Adam has been called away by Kenton to help with the PA system for this afternoon’s Single-Wicket competition. Pip’s relieved Adam is not there to observe her management of the herd, which she feels is not so good this week. Gauging the correct feeding area is tricky at first. Tom gives her a hand to move fences to allow the herd more access to grazing. He also offers moral support over her recent parting from Matthew, while she gives him a gentle nudge over Open Farm Sunday. With Jazzer back on pig duty, why not?
- Johnny is pleased that Tom has decided to take a couple of Angus cattle to Open Farm Sunday. He asks Tom for a couple of hours off this afternoon to compete in the Single Wicket. Tom agrees – and will also enter himself. Meanwhile there is sibling rivalry between Josh and Pip over their cricketing prowess.
- Tom and Johnny bend Kenton’s ear over Rob doing the commentary for the match. Rob offered and what else could Kenton do? Rob does after all, have a detailed knowledge of the game. There is also the matter of Rob’s local ‘hero’ status, not only in the cricketing fraternity but his efforts during the flood, and in addition, a ‘brave survivor of a knife attack’ according to whispers Kenton has heard in The Bull. While Tom and Johnny feel that Kenton should have declined Rob’s offer, Kenton was in a difficult position. Rob warns Tom off approaching Henry in the spectator area. Archer contact day with Henry is Sunday and today is Monday.
- Rex turns up to compete in the cricket and compliments Pip on her appearance in Toby’s video. He’s up against Pip in the match – who beats him in the first round. Rob’s enjoying his sole command of the microphone. His commentary includes a smattering of sexist comments and put-downs for the ladies. As Johnny is announced as winner, presentation of the award falls to Rob, who doesn’t miss the chance to let everyone know his part in tutoring Johnny in his cricket last season. He also monopolises his air time to thank people for their kindness over his difficult few weeks. Johnny snubs Rob as he takes the trophy, not shaking his hand. His acceptance speech includes tributes to the Archer family and an invite to Tom to join him on stand. He could not have achieved this without Tom who deserves an equal share in today’s victory.
