Open Sunday is a success despite the drone interruptions. Lilian and Justin congratulate themselves on their extra-marital conduct.
Radio Times: It is a busy day at Brookfield, and Lilian feels she has made the right decision.
Characters: Adam, David, Josh, Justin, Lilian, Pip, Rex, Tom- Tom is helping Pip with the cows and admits that it is a relief to get away from Bridge Farm. Henry is coming today and that is good news but Kirsty is helping with the shop on Sunday which is their busiest day. Tom doesn’t want to put Kirsty’s job in jeopardy even though she offered to ask for relief time from Grey Gables to help out. There just isn’t anyone to run the shop and Pat isn’t up to finding and training help. David tells Pip that Toby has requested a pitch for Open Sunday. Not for the egg business which has the caravan just by the gate, much to Pip’s disgust. Toby wants space to demonstrate his drones and talk about their value for farming purposes. Pip and David suspect that he really wants to talk about the drone advertising concern. Pip says that David is getting soft in his old age.
- Adam is giving a demonstration of the satellite navigation device in the large spreader. It can detect which parts are less or more fertile and can spread accordingly. As Adam tries to explain how this saves the environment as well as the farm’s profits, his talk is interrupted by a drone which puts paid to his speech. Pip is demonstrating the beef cattle management to the crowd when the drone buzzes her demonstration as well. She is clearly irritated but carries on. Josh gives more of an advert for his eggs than a talk about the production on Open Sunday. David asks how things went. Josh praises the drone flying but Pip points out that no one is actually buying Josh’s eggs on offer.
- Lilian and Justin return from a weekend away and make jokes about their ‘enjoyment’ of the Peak District. Apparently, the chambermaid walked in on them. Lilian announces her decision to conduct a relationship with Justin outside of his marriage was the best she has ever made. Ahem.
- Later, over a pint everyone discusses the Open Sunday. David thinks the numbers are higher than ever before. Adam mentions an upcoming cricket match and Tom apologises for not joining in. Everyone murmurs that it is understandable. Adam notes it might be just as well that Tom isn’t joining in because Rob comes along to watch most times. Pip says that would be terrible for Tom. Pip and Josh begin their skirmishing again over the egg business but Rex thanks Pip for allowing him to participate in a simple farming venture that isn’t over complicated. Pip understands Rex’s reference and is encouraging. Adam and David discuss the effect of the EU referendum on farmers and subsidies. Adam seems to support Brexit and David wants to remain. They each present their ideas in an amicable exchange of ideas.
- Meanwhile, back with the lovebirds, Justin must return to his wife. He asks Lilian what she will tell Jennifer. Lilian decides not to trumpet things but she will tell no lies. She got into trouble before when trying to cover up something. If Miranda finds out, she will be fine with things as long as she is not embarrassed publicly, asserts Justin. So all is fine, apparently. Justin gets a text that the County Council is about to announce the plans for the relief road. After all this time, asks Lilian? Good news for Justin and the village, she believes.
