The Ambridge fete is rescued from disaster but Lynda has to face a tragedy.

Radio Times: It is the day of the village fete: Fallon is tested, and Lynda is taken by surprise.

• While the stress levels of the Ambridge fete/Olympic festival organiser rise ever higher, the former fete organiser announces that she will be relaxing in the calm of her sunlit garden, with Lilian for company.
• Emma’s stress levels are not far behind those of her fellow baker as she tries to stop Keira and George eating the Brazilian delicacies. Ed does his best to calm her down. Harrison proudly announces that Dunk the Vicar and Splat the Rat have arrived intact despite universal alarm at their possible incompleteness, but one thing is still missing – Benny the footballer.
• News travels fast, even at the Ambridge fete/Carnival; Benny the footballer is being held at Borchester Police Station following an incident in a night club. Fallon goes into meltdown, not helped by stupid remarks by Kenton. Only one person can help now; whoever can that be?
• Fallon bursts into Lynda’s garden begging for help. Lynda thinks Jean Harvey may be elsewhere. No, says Fallon, you have been the leading light of Ambridge for thirty years. You must do it. After the essential show of false modesty, Lynda agrees. Lilian will help her choose her outfit.
• Complete with her Ascot hat, Lynda arrives and graciously gives a press interview before declaring the Ambridge Olympic Carnival Fete well and truly open. She has the entire populace eating out of her hand. Emma’s cakes have sold out and the dancing begins. Lynda congratulates Fallon on her achievement and Kenton offers drinks on the house while Fallon takes Lynda home.
• In the peace of the garden at Ambridge Hall, Lynda smiles to see Scruff fast asleep on the Resurgam stone, but quickly discovers that the little dog is actually dead. His race is run and Robert will be devastated.
