  • Pip and Toby taste the next batch of Toby’s Gin. Toby isn’t concerned that there is no consistency of taste between batches. He claims the differences reflect the artisan gin. He plans to give a bottle to Lynda and Robert, in part to make up for being late to rehearsal.
  • Adam interrupts Pip’s work on the herbal lays. He tells her about Brian’s refusal to listen. Pip is quite upset. Pip offers to talk to Brian but Adam is angry and tells her it isn’t worth it. Pip tries to call Toby but his mobile goes straight to message.
  • Tony goes to see Lilian. She is nervous but admits to the affair with Justin right away. They briefly rue the fact that Rob is the spreader of gossip but they both realize that this news will have repercussions.
  • Toby gives Lynda the bottle of gin to thank her for the use of botanicals from her garden. Lynda tartly replies that she hadn’t given permission and hadn’t even known about it. Robert breaks in to advise forgiveness and he wishes to break open the bottle. Which botanicals did Toby use? Toby won’t give away his trade secrets. His idea for the play is a talent show for the cast during the interval with the audience voting for the winner. X factor for Ambridge. Lynda is intrigued but is then lured off topic by a discussion of a better name for the spirit than Toby’s Gin. How about Scruff, cries Robert?
  • Pat wasn’t surprised about the affair, notes Tony and Lilian is defensive. The conversation degenerates into angry words when they discuss Justin’s hiring of Rob. Tony stops suddenly; this is what Rob wants. He wants to use the affair to tear them apart but the family need to stand together and use this news to their advantage.
  • Toby comes home and his only support of Pip is to tell her to do something else. Think outside the box; create her own new career as Toby has done. Pip is too distressed to take comfort from Toby’s platitudes.
