  • Lynda’s walking Hermes and, in an ironic twist, Marjorie is not walking any of her hounds, she’s just out walking. They discuss yesterday’s Countryside March and Marjorie says, that for all their thoughts being dominated by last week’s tragedy, it was a wonderful day. They collect seedlings which might form the start of a millenium event.
  • Pat and Tony are slowing coming to terms, trying to keep their minds occupied with work – even if Tony’s work is the funeral arrangements. Janet calls on them to ask their thoughts on that. Simplicity is the watchword. They agree that they’re lucky to have the people around to help, but that they have to fight to overcome the difficulties for their own, but also for Helen and Tommy’s, sakes.
  • Kate and Roy are setting aside, temporarily at least, their differences and visit Janet to offer their help with the funeral, an offer she gratefully accepts. Kate doesn’t really want to read at the service, but Roy’s cajoled into thinking about it – although not necessarily from the Bible. They are trying to aim for a service that will be sensitive to the older generations but respect John’s life as he lived it.
  • Life goes on as Lynda is rallying the village elders into submitting a complaint about the planning permission sought for Sawyers Farm, comments are due very soon.
