Characters: Betty, Brian, Jack, Mike, Neil, Peggy, Susan
- Neil is in amongst his pigs and happy to be so. Mike suggests that they work together today, first sorting out Neil’s weaners then doing more gates for Brian Aldridge. Neil has nothing else planned and welcomes the company. He had hoped for an interview but did not want them to refer to his old boss at Borchester Mills. At least the weaners will bring in a bit of money.
- With the extra opening hours at the shop, Betty needs someone reliable to help. Even though she had an ante-natal appointment, Kate should not have closed the shop without telling Betty. Jack will make the opportunity to have a private word with her.
- Brian is surprised to find that Mike has an assistant and assures Neil that there will be some work for him next week, just a couple of days. Also, it is clear that Neil’s secret is well and truly out. Suddenly, Eric is spotted and the chase is on! He escapes again; at least now Neil knows what a slippery customer he is.
- It seems that Kate had tried to contact Betty without success before closing the shop; it won’t happen again. Until something more permanent can be arranged, Peggy will help out in the shop.
- Susan is being very thrifty, as Neil discovers when he learns what is for tea. She is not impressed by the prospect of a couple of days casual work and even less by his plan to buy more pigs to support the new venture with Hayley and Tommy. She makes it very clear that Neil had better get down to some serious job applications for work more appropriate to his experience.
