Characters: Betty, Jill, Neil, Phil, Roy, Shula, Tony
- More manpower problems as Neil’s spreading himself too thinly: Tony needs him to supervise the carrot weeding, only Mike can’t do his shift at the PYO, fortunately Roy steps in and Tony can get away to complain, in person, about the contractor’s contamination of the clover.
- Phil and Jill’s evening in Buckinghamshire was not a success, Jill enjoyed it but Phil was mortified to discover that the orchestra was amplified – he’s seriously considering pulling out, protecting his musical integrity.
- Neil’s got an interview for a rep’s job – only he doesn’t plan to go nor to tell Susan.
- Betty overheards Shula and Tony discussing the new addition – she hadn’t heard. She heads off to the PYO to tell Roy. They’re convinced of their blood relationship to Kate’s child and feel most put out that it’s taken three days to hear (with most of the village having heard already) and even then, not even from Kate or her parents.
