Adam’s contract is still very much in the air; Jenny is placed in a potentially awkward position.

Radio Times: Jennifer gets a surprise, and Ed comes to the rescue.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Over breakfast, Emma tries to explain her ideas about helping Fallon with her catering and upcycling ventures. Much as he would love to listen, Ed has to make an early start on some additional tractor work. They can discuss matters when he gets back home.
  • Adam and Brian discuss Justin Elliot’s contract for next year. More to the point, will there be one? Jenny opens the post as they talk, only to find a letter from John Tregorran’s executors. In addition, there is a sealed letter from John to Jennifer herself. Fancy that, after all those years.
  • Ed discovers Charlie who has broken down on his way to meet Rob at Berrow farm. Eventually, Ed offers to tow him there but takes pleasure in pointing out that Charlie had previously banned him from Estate property. Charlie wisely makes an exception, just this once.
  • Jenny reads through John’s letter with Brian, in which he talks of Carol keeping secrets and the games she plays. He was often left wondering what she might do next! Brian wonders if they were the wild thoughts of a man on serious medication. Jenny discovers that he has left her some of his book collection… and £50,000. Heavens.
  • Emma is grudgingly pleased that Ed is apparently back in Charlie’s good books. She has taken Ed a picnic lunch and tells him of her plans to help Fallon with her upcycling. With the extra cash, a place of their own may be nearer than they think. Meanwhile, Adam and Charlie anticipate a good crop yield next year. When Adam asks about the new cropping programme, Charlie mentions the further planning application for the AD. And by the way, he saw Ed on one of Adam’s tractors earlier. As long as he keeps away from the combine! Not yet forgiven then!
  • Jenny is concerned about accepting John’s gift, especially given the stories that were rife all those years ago. Brian is very relaxed about it all and is quite sure that Carol will understand. Anyway, as she lives in Bristol, he is certain it will cause no difficulties in Ambridge. His advice is that Jenny should keep the cash and put it to good use, the children perhaps or something nice for her to remember him by.
