Characters: Alan, Alistair, Jennifer, Jill, Peggy, Shula- As Jennifer takes her mother to the Remembrance service, Peggy becomes reflective, but is pleased to see such a good turnout. They then go to see Jack, who is happy feeding the birds. Jenny and Lilian will take Peggy for tea at Grey Gables to celebrate her birthday, though Brian is being treated to a holiday in Mauritius for his.
- Jill has lunch with Shula and Alistair, and is quickly made aware of the tense atmosphere at The Stables. Shula tells her they have had a row over Darrell, and that Alistair has issued an ultimatum; either Darrell goes or Alistair does. Jill points out that Shula has already done a great deal for Darrell; he now needs professional help.
- Heeding Jill’s words, Shula rings Alan, who offers to come over and talk to her with Alistair. Alistair is not cheered by this news; Alan will be wasting his time, but when Alan tells the pair they must not let Darrell come between them, he does start to listen. Darrell must go to the council to see what housing possibilities there are. He must be made to move on to the next stage.
- Daniel rings to say he is coming home for his birthday, which renders the Darrell situation all the more urgent. Alistair sees this as an imperative to remove Darrell, though Shula still feels Darrell is too vulnerable for this. Alistair explodes in anger. Daniel is coming home, so she must tell him exactly what she intends to do.
