And with Alan picking Usha’s traditional roses for their anniversary, another entry to the Flower and Produce show bites the dust.
Radio Times: Darrell’s still got his pride, and Alan makes a grand gesture.
Characters: Alan, Brian, Darrell, Martyn, Rob, Shula- Alan tells Shula it’s his wedding anniversary and she is horrified to find out he is planning on buying village shop flowers. She tells him to go to the Perivale Garden Centre. The Cathedral School has bought 20 tickets for the concert though while the “mostly music students” would want tickets to Ambridge is hard to imagine. Shula tells him how difficult it is seeing Darrell so low.
- The cows have finally arrived. Brian and Rob are pleased but Martyn seems to think they should be making money straight away. Rob points out they need to calve before they can start milking them. Even Brian is horrified at his ignorance. However, Brian does tell Rob that he has done a wonderful job.
- Shula takes some batteries for Darrell’s radio and some biscuits. He doesn’t want to take them but she persuades him to accept them as a loan that he can pay back in the future. Shula tries to convince him things will pick up. He admits he can’t even bear to see the girls. He just shoves money through the door. Shula tries to empathise. She is also able to tell him that the dog fighting person got 8 years.
- Alan cooks a lovely meal for Usha for their anniversary which they really enjoy together. And Alan tops it off with giving her flowers from the garden (because, of course, everyone goes and picks flowers from the garden as an anniversary gift) – the very roses she was planning to enter into the flower and produce show. She is furious. Two bunches of wonderful roses now dead, which ones next?
