Characters: , , , , ,
  • At Brookfield, Ruth and Jill are waiting for Alistair to call in to start TB testing on the dairy herd. Ruth’s hunt for spring cross-bred calvers is underway and seems to be showing results. Matthew calls in briefly, looking for Pip. After he leaves, Jill admits to feeling that Pip has taken quite a shine to him. Ruth agrees, time will tell.
  • Tom rounds Jazzer up to head over to Manorfield Close where the escaped pigs are said to be running amok in a garden. When they arrive, they find a scene of destruction, a very disgruntled householder but no pigs. Jazzer privately reckons it’s the resident’s fault for leaving the garden gate open.
  • Brookfield sees Matthew helping to move cattle for testing. He tells Ruth that he thinks it’s brave of them to change their milking system but confirms that Pip’s with them all the way. He drifts off to get more cows. David’s concerned that they may find reactors during testing, but he admits to having an increasing regard for Matthew and his views.
  • As Alistair leaves, all David and Ruth can do is hope for the best. Again, Matthew calls in looking for Pip before starting milking. They’re off for a drink later. As he leaves, David finally gets Ruth’s message that a romantic attachment may be in the making. David points out that Matthew will be leaving soon. “Yeah… I suppose so” is Ruth’s reply!
  • In The Bull, Jazzer and Tom are enjoying a pint and bemoaning the fact that the pigs haven’t yet been caught. Kenton’s even thinking of taking bets on how long it will take. Matthew appears looking for Pip. After a few moments, he sees her enter the bar and rushes off to greet her
  • Unable to sleep because of worrying about the TB tests, Ruth finds Jill wide awake in the kitchen. They agree that cocoa might help. Ruth suggests turning the radio off, not wanting to wake Pip in the dining room. Jill believes that she just might be over at Rickyard cottage. A disbelieving Ruth sneaks a quick look and finds an empty bed. No sign of Pip. Jill was right!
