  • Kate shows Lynda some costume designs. Lynda is impressed, but thinks her budget might not be up to this. The idea for Mother Goose’s final outfit renders her almost speechless. They are interrupted by Brian, demanding a word with Kate. Not for the first time, Kate fears that she is in trouble, so her evasionary tactics are called into play.
  • Toby times things right when he appears at The Bull just as Kenton’s barman rings in sick. With some slick talking, Toby manages to persuade Kenton to take him on instead. Kenton is quickly impressed with Toby’s ability to remember detail, so Toby has a job until Christmas. He even wants to rehearse with Kenton for the panto when things are quiet.
  • An astonished Jennifer is asked to show Kate how to use the sewing machine. Kate wants to try out some of her designs. Brian catches her, but for one he is not berating his feckless daughter; he merely wants to know her thoughts on his possible land acquisition. Kate professes ignorance of such matters, but an implied promise to re-site her yurts in a more suitable place soon wins her round. Jennifer is left to try and talk Brian out of it.
  • Having attempted to win Kate’s approval, Brian tries Alice next. She rattles off jargon about the future of farming being technology and urges Brian to borrow the mere 2 million plus that is involved. Jennifer again asks whether this is wise at their time of life but Brian is not inclined to listen.
  • Kate tries to enlist Alice’s help with the costumes. After the casting debacle, Alice has no intention of going anywhere near Mother Goose, so Kate gets a resounding NO.
  • At rehearsal, Kenton tries to persuade Lynda to cut some of his lines, but meets with a flat refusal. Toby save the day by telling her that he and Kenton will rehearse together. By tomorrow’s rehearsal Lynda will not recognise the scene.
