Brian is determined that Debbie is entirely on his side despite her being clear that she sees Adam’s point of view.

Radio Times: Jennifer tries to keep the peace, but Kate is unhappy, and Brian is not listening.

Characters: Adam, Alice, Brian, Debbie, Jennifer, Kate, Phoebe

• Brian picks Debbie up from the airport and instantly begins ranting about Adam. Debbie tries to make it clear that while she can see Brian’s point of view, she can see sense in what Adam is recommending too. Brian only thinks she is 100% on his side.
• Jennifer is pleased to hear that things are going well at Oxford for Phoebe; Kate is more disgruntled and thinks Phoebe should be out partying more. Jennifer is her usual over the top self at the idea of having all the family together. Alice and Adam arrive and are bickering about the farm. Jennifer bans talk of the farm. This however doesn’t seem to work despite Jennifer’s attempts at diversion. Eventually even Jennifer fails by offending Kate by suggesting all she has done is make panto costumes and she storms out.
• Kate is angry with Jennifer for picking on the costumes and endlessly fussing over Debbie. She agrees to show Phoebe the costumes after dinner. With Jennifer out of the room, the rest return to squabbling about the way ahead. They apologise when she comes back.
• Debbie and Adam have a chat while choosing some more wine. She is so sorry about what happened between Ian and Adam. She wonders if sorting things with Ian is what he wants. Adam says it definitely is. He doesn’t want to see himself turning into Brian.
• Phoebe is, apparently, impressed with Kate’s costumes. She says she is proud of Kate for both the costumes and what she is doing with Spiritual Home. Kate says that means a lot to her. But then it all falls down when she admits she has only made 3 costumes and the dress rehearsal is on Tuesday.
• After dinner, Brian tries to sweet talk Debbie into his way of thinking over whisky. He still thinks she is totally on his side. She tells him she shouldn’t reject Adam’s ideas and that he should listen. Brian says he is sure he and Debbie can talk Adam round at which point Debbie gives up, goes to bed and tells him he needs some time to think.
