Radio Times: Daniel gets his results, and there’s good news for Elizabeth.

  • There are dinner guests expected at Grange Farm: Harriet and Ray. Caroline warns Oliver not to get ahead of himself: she is not going to appoint Ray as temporary manager over dinner and she will want references.
  • Daniel has done well, as Elizabeth reports: 3 As and a B; those results will enable him to go to Nottingham to read law and he didn’t mind being Skyped at 6am US time to hear them. Elizabeth has some good news of her own: her two building plots have been sold to a local builder. David must check on a couple of cows. Elizabeth takes up his invitation to go with him. David is surprised to hear about Jamie being Kenton’s best man but he thinks it is a nice idea, although all the talk of weddings upsets Elizabeth. Meanwhile the cows are getting on with it themselves and the first two calves are fine heifers with no sign of Schmallenberg; only 178 to go!
  • Ray turns out to be a bit of a joker but basically has a wealth of experience and makes a good impression on Caroline, despite her desperately trying to avoid being dragged along by Oliver’s enthusiasm. By the time the guests leave, things have moved faster than Caroline had expected. They do both have the feeling that Ray would be a safe pair of hands in which to leave the hotel. Caroline still wants to see references but she agrees they can start looking forward to their holiday.
