Charlie feels the disappointments of Justin; Kenton begins to pay off his loans

  • Charlie is showing the replacement cows to Justin. Justin is distressed and is giving Charlie a hard time. Charlie argues that the herd is free from infection and they are replacing stock at this point. Justin is worried about the credibility of the herd. Justin brings up the Polish language; there is a Polish saying, ‘Only fools, drunkards and children tell the truth.’ Justin thinks that silence is the best defence.
  • Ruth comes in to help Pip with the preparations for the sheep which are arriving very soon. Ruth had gone out to buy wrapping paper for Dan’s tankard but she was caught in the moment of silence.
  • All is settled for Justin’s hunt guests who will be housed in Grey Gables. Charlie tries to qualm his fears but Justin brings up his doubts about Charlie’s abilities as a team leader. Justin brings up the loss of Rob and worries about the lack of a replacement.
  • Many of Pip’s mates are traveling to New Zealand to observe operations there. Ruth encourages her to go with them but Pip replies that she has too much to do in Ambridge.
  • Charlie calls Adam to ask for advice on dealing with media fallout. Justin wants Charlie to book a few extra nights at Grey Gables so that he ‘can deal with a few things.’ Charlie asks Adam to meet up for a drink to put things into perspective.
  • Kenton drops by and discusses the renovations of The Bull with Ruth. Jolene has auctioned off many items of sentimental value such as The Bull teapot. Ruth is amazed that it went to America. Kenton plans on using the proceeds to pay off the loan to his siblings, David first. Kenton asks when Jill is moving back in with David and Ruth. Ruth tells him and Kenton muses that David always gets what he wants in the end. Ruth agrees and doesn’t seem so very pleased with this observation.
